Independent database tooling

A MySQL Workbench alternative with familiar roots.

Looking for a MySQL Workbench alternative? SQL Studio builds on MySQL Workbench’s architecture and codebase as an independent open-source project for SQL development, database design and administration.

Where SQL Studio comes from

SQL Studio evolved from the architecture and codebase of MySQL Workbench. Its purpose is to continue developing a graphical tool for the MySQL and MariaDB ecosystems with community participation and an independent release timeline.

This history explains the scope of the tool: SQL development, visual schema design, server administration, migration and performance monitoring. SQL Studio is not described here as an official replacement or official successor.

Familiar MySQL Workbench workflows

Evaluate it for your environment

Start with your operating system and database version, then review available release notes. Shared foundations do not establish compatibility for every workflow, plugin or saved project. Evaluate a candidate build with your own test data before adopting it.

For MariaDB GUI use, pay attention to the README’s upcoming-support note. The compatibility table below keeps that distinction visible.

Questions from MySQL Workbench users

Is SQL Studio the same as MySQL Workbench?

No. SQL Studio builds on MySQL Workbench’s architecture and codebase, but it is independently maintained and is not an Oracle product. Learn more about the project’s origins and direction.

Can I download SQL Studio for Windows, macOS or Linux?

Binary downloads are coming soon. The project is working on stability and the interface. Check the SQL Studio download pagefor platform requirements and release availability, or explore the source code linked there.

Will my MySQL Workbench projects and plugins work?

Shared foundations do not guarantee compatibility with every saved model, connection configuration or plugin. Keep your original files and test copies with a candidate build before moving your workflow. Reviewdocumentation and release notes for the build you plan to use.

Can I use SQL Studio with MariaDB?

MariaDB support is planned, but the project currently describes it as upcoming. Check the database support table below before choosing a build for your environment.

Compatibility, clearly stated

Know your database support.

Version information follows the project README. Check release notes for the build you intend to use.

Database versions and support status
