About SQL Studio
A familiar foundation. An independent future.
SQL Studio is a community-driven graphical database tool for the MySQL and MariaDB ecosystems, built on the architecture and codebase of MySQL Workbench.
Why this project exists
The project began with a goal: keep a capable, open-source database development and administration tool evolving through independent maintenance and community participation. SQL Studio brings SQL editing, visual database design, administration, migration and monitoring into one project.
Experience that knows the codebase
SQL Studio is led by a former Technical Lead and Product Owner for MySQL Workbench at Oracle (2015–2025), with more than 20 years of software engineering experience. That work covered core C++ and Python features, product planning, security, maintenance and cross-platform release delivery.Meet the developer behind SQL Studio.
This experience is part of SQL Studio’s history. The project is independently maintained and does not represent Oracle.
Open development, on its own timeline
The README sets out a long-term commitment to open development and a community focus. Contributions and discussions happen on GitHub, and releases are published on demand when changes are ready.
You can contribute to the project, join the discussion or read the project’s own introduction.
Respecting the foundations
SQL Studio acknowledges the past and present contributors to MySQL Workbench. Its lineage is described openly; the website uses SQL Studio as the product name even where historical source files retain MySQL Studio or Workbench wording.
